What is Transitlog? How to Buy?

One of the most frequently asked questions by boat owners arriving from abroad is, "What is a transitlog?" Every yacht model must obtain a transitlog during its stay in Turkey, specifying the ports visited and registered in Turkey for the yacht's captain and owner. If the yacht owner leaves the marina for abroad, this must be reported to the Customs Administration under the name "Wintering Acceptance." For this process to be cancelled, the relevant sections of the transitlog must be completed. Otherwise, the Customs Directorate will impose penalties for each missing step and document. If the yacht owner remains on board, cruises in Turkey, or leaves the marina for an extended period for visits or business purposes, there is no need to complete the wintering process.

How Long Are Transitlog Documents Valid?

Another frequently asked question by boat owners is, "How long are transitlog documents valid?" Transitlog documents are valid until their expiration date. Therefore, the person leaving the boat must be the owner as well as the crew. Two weeks before the transitlog's expiration date, the yacht owner must fill out and sign a form to renew this document. A new transitlog must be issued for the yacht owner to return to Turkey and set sail again.

If any yacht leaves Turkish territorial waters, even for a short period, and intends to return within the validity period of the transitlog, it must submit the document upon departure and obtain a new one upon arrival.

When yachts travel to foreign ports, they must complete all customs procedures, submitting the Port Authority, Passport Police, Customs, and transitlog in that order.

Can You Freely Travel to Foreign Ports with Your Own Yacht?

There are no problems with visiting foreign ports with private yachts. As long as your yacht has sufficient cruising capacity, you can sail to all the seas of the world. Departure from Turkey must be from an official port of entry, and an agency must have all the necessary documents prepared completely. These documents must be submitted to the relevant authorities. In this way, you can easily travel to any port you wish with your yacht and add a different atmosphere to your summer holidays.

Important Details to Remember for Transitlog Procedures

When researching important details for transitlog procedures, you may encounter many situations. It's crucial to remember that visas are valid for multiple entries, but transit logs are not. In cases of urgent evacuation from Turkey, if the yacht is not properly evacuated, it must be delivered to the Turkish Consulate abroad within one month. Otherwise, the yacht will not be able to return to Turkish waters.

Is Yacht Insurance Valid for Transitlog?

One of the most frequently asked questions by yacht owners is whether yacht insurance is valid for transitlog. A yacht using a marina must have valid and adequate third-party liability insurance covering the yacht owner, crew, and guests on board. Insurance policies that expire within the period specified in the mooring agreement must be renewed by the yacht owner within the specified time. Otherwise, the marina management has the right to cancel the mooring agreement and remove the yacht from the marina.

Is a Transitlog Required for Turkish Flagged Commercial Yachts?

Turkish flagged commercial yachts are required to obtain a transitlog for voyages to other ports within the country or to other ports abroad. On the other hand, if it is operating under a charter company such as a superyacht, motor yacht, or megayacht, it must obtain this document again each time the contract changes.

Transitlog Procedure for Foreign-Flaged Vessels

For foreign-flagged yachts, the transitlog document allows navigation in Turkish territorial waters and entry into Turkish ports. All matters related to entry into and exit from Turkey, navigation between Turkish ports, and wintering in Turkish ports are handled with the transitlog document, and all information contained in this document forms the basis for subsequent procedures. For foreign vessels, the transitlog document is valid for one year. However, the ports of call or areas of navigation for the foreign vessel must be listed on the transitlog document. If the vessel will be sailing outside the ports listed on the document, the transitlog document must be reissued. Therefore, careful attention should be paid to the transitlog document for foreign vessels.
